Specialty FAQs

Does plastic surgery only mean cosmetic surgery?
No. Cosmetic surgery is a small elective subset. The majority of clinical plastic surgery is reconstructive surgery (treating trauma wounds, hand nerve injuries, skin grafts, and burns) to restore physiological function.
What is the criteria for a successful skin graft?
A successful graft requires a clean donor site and a recipient wound bed with adequate blood supply. Complete vascular integration (graft uptake) usually occurs within 7 to 10 days.
Can you treat contractures from old burn scars?
Yes. Old, tight burn scars that restrict joint mobility can be released surgically and reconstructed using local tissue flaps or skin grafting, combined with post-operative physiotherapy.
